While most people know (released in 1932), The Times has actually updated its typeface many times since then to adapt to modern printing.

Before Times New Roman became the default face of every high school essay and legal brief, it was a bespoke creation born from a public insult. In 1929, typographer Stanley Morison criticized The Times (London) for being "badly printed and typographically behind the times".
