: Unknown to the racing team, jewel thieves Max and Quincey hide a stolen diamond, the "Étoile de Joie" (Star of Joy), in Herbie's fuel tank to evade the police. Much of the film involves the thieves' bumbling attempts to retrieve the gem during the race.
